Furry Siblings

p_2048_1536_E04B1D71-4942-4BC9-8163-93641D1D0500.jpegOccasionally I like to give a shout out to Lillian’s furry and feathered siblings. The three pets have been wonderful adjusting to a toddler overrunning their domain. Lillian gets the biggest kick out of petting Duke and Andy these days – so many giggles! We are still very careful to keep her away from Stanley’s cage.

Speaking of Stan, Lillian is actually a little afraid of him. Stan gets to come out of his cage a couple of times a month and he always stretches and flaps his wings – an action sending Duke’s instincts into a frenzy! Anyway, the flapping of the wings scares Lillian. She shakes her head ‘no’, whimpers, and comes running to me. Perhaps she instinctively knows the terror his beak can cause?

Duke tolerates Lillian pretty well, but when he’s trying to take a cat nap {giggle} he does not like to be messed with. Lillian has a lot of love to give and is always giving her toys to Duke, but they have had about three altercations thus far. A few swipes from Duke and a few tears from Lillian, then they are back to being buddies again!

Finally, I think the biggest winner in all of this is Andy. Due to a rather sensitive stomach, he had not received a single piece of table food before Lillian was around. Now, she hands him food left and right. She finds it quite hilarious, actually. Sometimes, with a mouth full of food, she will turn to him and open her mouth wide for him to share. Mind you, we don’t encourage that particular action, but Andy I feasting like a king these days!

Welcome Anabelle!

photoIf you haven’t already heard the good news, Lillian has a cousin! Arriving two and a half weeks early, little Anabelle Rene was born August 11th, just in time for Aunt Lisa and Uncle Brian to come visit! We had planned on traveling to Florida the following weekend to throw Kristin and Mark a baby shower, so we were very excited that we could meet her so soon!

Anabelle is just gorgeous, and will be in the running for passing up Lillian on the number of haircuts needed at such a young age! Of course, Brian started putting her hair into a mohawk within seconds of holding her. She was welcomed home by all of her furry friends on the farm, and Mom and Dad are doing great, as well!

I thought it was interesting that Brian held Anabelle just as he held Lillian in the ‘football’ hold. Then I noticed Kristin holding Anabelle the exact same way! Must be a MacDonald thing. IMG_8709Despite the excitement of a new baby, we were able to stop cuddling Anabelle long enough to put together a nice shower for Kristin and Mark. It helped that they had many wonderful friends and family celebrating along with us! Like that colorful table runner? I made it out of paper napkins!

Must Have Toddler Gadget

photo-2With all of the traveling that we have been doing this summer, we made the super smart purchase of a portable DVD player before our most recent trip up to Sylvania. We decided that this was a necessary purchase because Lillian now only sleeps for about an hour of that very frequent three hour drive. She can get rather cranky during the other two hours of the trip, so in order to keep our sanity and hers, we decided to keep her occupied with Pixar movies.

A quick trip to the store, and we brought home this model where the screen attaches to the back of the headrest. The system was in place when I put Lillian in the car, and she was all “Ooh’s and Aah’s” over just a blank screen. After her nice hour long nap, we stopped for some lunch and then I put in the movie. This was her reaction when the movie came on. It was so cute to look back and see her peacefully traveling along watching The Incredibles. I was able to balance the volume between her movie and my audiobook so that we could both complete our trip happily.

Now that she has seen The Incredibles, perhaps she will think her parents are more cool when we do things like this:n718505372_713660_3627

Toddler Jewelry

Lillian is really embracing the fun fashion indulgences of being a girl. Recently, she has really taken a liking to jewelry. I shouldn’t be surprised about this. Many many months ago, we brought on a new babysitter, Elizabeth (Holla!), and she was always wearing cute headbands and jewelry. Liz would always send me pictures like the one below of Lillian wearing her cute accessories. photoNow that she is older, she is getting the hang of how to wear the jewelry. With the popularity of SillyBandz, there is always someone around that Lillian snags a new bracelet from. She will bring the bracelet to me, stretch out her arm, and pinch her fingers together so I can put the bracelet on her wrist. Thankfully, she is learning not to eat the bracelets as well. photo-1As of late, her most favorite accessories are the strings of pearls at Grandma McAtee’s house. One of her first orders of business when she arrives is to pull her pearls out of her ballerina jewelry box, (a pass down that I used to use), and she will wear them around for the rest of the day. Good parenting note: the pearls are always removed for nap time. I am very excited to see how her style develops!

15 Month Check Up

Last week, Lillian made a trip to the doctor for her 15 month check up.

That’s right. I said 15 months. I freak out about that, too!

photo

The picture above is her playing in the waiting room before the appointment. It was so surreal to sit there and watch her dominate the waiting area, walking all over and pulling out all of the toys and books. I can easily picture Brian and I sitting there for her 1 week check up!

She checked out wonderfully, as usual. Nothing to worry about at this stage in the game. The doctor did say a forbidden word – MOLARS. He said they were coming soon. I would be lying if I said they will probably be NBD. She has been cutting a few regular teeth over the past week and it has not been pretty. Soaking wet shirts from drool, a constant ‘eh eh’ noise, lots and lots of Tylenol, and the worst: shortened naps. Shortened naps screw up everything. I am doing my best to be patient and take it in stride, but to know that molars are usually worse, EEK!

Anyway, back to the matter at hand, her statistics as of 15 months old:

Weight: 23lbs 10oz (60th percentile)   Height: 31.4in (75th percentile)
