16 Weeks!

Today marks the beginning of my 16th week of pregnancy! Some highlights for the baby in the coming week include:

-Growth spurt! In the next few weeks it will double its weight and add inches to its length (currently its about the size of an avocado, 4 1/2 inches long and 3 1/2 ounces)

-Toenails are beginning to grow

-The heart is pumping 25 quarts of blood a day

Thanks to babycenter.com for my weekly fun facts! This is also the week that I could start to feel the baby moving around. I’ve been feeling a few things quite a few times a day for about 4 days now…I’m not quite sure if its baby activity…it could very well be gas! Stay tuned!

Girl or Boy?

I’ve gotten a lot of questions lately about whether or not we’ll be finding out the sex of the baby. The answer is a big fat YES! Brian and I are such planners, and I am impatient so we didn’t even have to think twice about the answer to that question! We don’t have a scheduled ultrasound yet but it will most likely be during our regular appointment in late December. However, I have to be careful not get my hopes up too much because I am very aware that the baby could be difficult and not flash us during the ultrasound! There’s been lots of stories about that happening at my new favorite online community babycenter.com. I’m in an April 2009 birth club so it’s fun to connect with other women experiencing the same crazy things that I am! Not knowing thus far has been a blessing on our bank account – once we know the sex, it’ll be hard to hold back!

As far as preference goes, it doesn’t really matter to us. If we are blessed to have two children, each of a different sex, I guess we’d want a boy first – but we have no idea of knowing what’s going to happen after this one. We have been calling it a boy, but for no reason other than it just comes out easier for some reason. I am visiting my friend Nicole this weekend who feels that she’ll be able to tell the sex based on how I’m carrying. While I don’t have much of a belly yet, perhaps she’ll be able to tell! Anyone want to make a bet as to what it is?

Happy Halloween!

For Halloween I wore a bun in the oven costume and Brian was the bun maker. I wore this costume to work as a way to announce my good news to all of my co-workers – it was a very fun day.
