Baby Breathing Problem – Tracheomalacia
At random times throughout her first three months, Lillian would sharply inhale and make a high pitched sound – no big deal. Last week, she was doing this all the time, primarily when she was excited and making her baby talk noises. It never seemed to really bother her, but it bothered me quite a bit. I decided to call the doc and the nurse wanted her to come in thinking that it may be a reflux issue. I recorded a video of this weird breathing on my phone to show Dr. M. He diagnosed Lily with a mild case of tracheomalacia. Basically, the cartilage making up her trachea isn’t hard enough just yet causing the high pitched inhale. He said to put her on her stomach if she’s having a bad case of it, and she should grow out of it by a year. Nothing to worry about – he was more interested in the new iPhone that I took the video on, I think I inspired him to get one!
