Breast Pump Weaning

I have decided that I’m going to begin weaning myself from the breast pump. It’s a really hard decision for me because I feel slightly guilty about moving Lillian to formula. I have to keep telling myself that it will be okay because she has gotten the benefits of breastmilk for 3 months now and she will be just fine going forward…but it still is really tough since my milk supply is still there. Yes, it is a selfish decision because exclusively pumping is A LOT of work. First I feed Lily which takes about a half hour, then I pump – another half hour process. After that comes hand washing the pump parts and bottle. If I stop pumping, we will most likely just wash all of the parts in the dishwasher.  In the end, it will be easier to travel and will give me more time to hang out with Lillian. I will probably increase her ounces as well which will lead to another dropped feeding for her and she’ll sleep longer at night. All good things.

I have about 150 ounces of frozen breastmilk so the transition will be gradual. We’re going to start mixing breastmilk with formula in hopes that it will be easier on Lily’s tummy. I’m hoping that I will feel at peace with this decision soon!
